Man City back on top as Haaland ends goal drought
City beat Tottenham 2-0 to move back to the summit of the Premier League
Haaland tapped home the opener before Mahrez sealed the win with a late penalty
Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday. Erling Haaland, who had not scored in his previous three games, tapped home the opener in the 15th minute after a cross from Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez then sealed the win with a late penalty in the 90th minute after Emerson Royal had fouled Jack Grealish in the box. The win moves City back to the top of the table, two points ahead of Arsenal, who have a game in hand. Spurs remain in fifth place, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. This was a crucial win for City, who had been under pressure after losing their last two games in all competitions. They showed great character to come back from behind and win the game, and will be confident of challenging for the title this season. Spurs, meanwhile, will be disappointed with the result, but they can take some positives from the performance. They played well for large periods of the game and were unfortunate not to get anything out of it. They will need to improve their defensive record if they want to challenge for the top four this season.
